Thomas Coon, M.D.

Thomas Coon, M.D.

Thomas Coon, MD, is a world-renowned board-certified orthopedic surgeon who pioneered minimally invasive knee replacement surgery in the United States. Using highly specialized instruments—which he helped develop—and state-of-the-art technology, Dr. Coon performs a breakthrough alternative to traditional total knee replacement: minimally invasive quad-sparing total knee arthroplasty. He has performed more than 8,000 total and partial replacement surgeries during his career and trains physicians worldwide in his techniques.

A native of Ohio, Dr. Coon spent more than 15 years practicing orthopedic surgery in the small town of Bryan, Ohio, where he began developing breakthrough techniques in small incision hip and knee surgery. He received his medical degree from the Ohio State University College of Medicine and completed his internship in general surgery and residency in orthopedic surgery at the Medical College of Ohio at Toledo.

He is a husband, dad and an avid race car driver.

John Diana, M.D.

John Diana, M.D.

Board certified orthopedic surgeon, John Diana, MD, is Chief of the Hip Division at the Coon Joint Replacement Institute, specializing in minimally invasive knee and hip replacement surgery. Dr. Diana has performed approximately 2000 hip replacement surgeries, nearly half of which were performed using the anterior hip replacement approach. He has performed over 3000 knee joint replacement surgeries, is highly regarded for his work in computer-assisted navigation for joint replacement surgery, and is certified as a MAKO™ robotic surgeon for both knee and hip replacements.

Dr. Diana focuses extensively on minimally invasive joint replacement surgery, using the latest state-of-the-art technologies. Using these minimally invasive surgical techniques may reduce pain, restore mobility and promote a quick return to normal activities for patients suffering from osteoarthritis and other conditions.

Dr. Diana graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Indiana University, and earned his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was awarded Chief Residency of Orthopedic Surgery. As Chief Resident, Dr. Diana received the DeForest Willard Award, the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a graduate.

Dr. Diana is an active member of the American Association of Hip and Knee surgeons. A devoted family man, Dr. Diana enjoys spending time with his wife, son and daughter. His primary interest, outside of work and time with family, is ultrarunning. Ultrarunning is primarily trail running and involves races over a marathon distance. Dr. Diana was a volunteer physician for the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in 2012, and is a member of the USATF. He has also done volunteer medical work in both Guatemala and Kenya, providing medical services and education.

Ryan E. Moore, M.D., Ph.D.

Board Certified orthopedic surgeon Ryan Moore, MD, specializes in minimally invasive knee and hip replacement surgery, reconstruction and the treatment of osteoarthritis. He is highly regarded by his peers and is a welcome addition to the Coon Joint Replacement Institute. His expertise includes robotic-assisted partial knee replacement, partial and total knee and hip replacement, complex revision knee and hip replacement and knee arthroscopy.

Dr. Moore focuses on minimally invasive joint replacement surgery, using the latest state-of-the-art technologies including computer-assisted navigation and robotic-assisted partial knee replacement. Dr. Moore uses surgical techniques that reduce pain, restore mobility and promote a quick return to normal activities for patients suffering from osteoarthritis and other conditions.

Dr. Moore received a combined degree from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, a Medical Degree and a PhD in Cell & Molecular Biology. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. The Rothman Institute at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, PA, is where Dr. Moore completed his first fellowship. Under the direction of Drs. Thomas Coon and John Diana, Dr. Moore completed his second fellowship in minimally invasive knee and hip surgery.

A devoted family man, Dr. Moore lives in St. Helena with his wife and three small children. He enjoys many hobbies, including weight training, distance running, classical music, Alpine skiing, hiking and backpacking, cooking and collecting wine.
